The American food system is greatly influenced and controlled by U.S. food policy. Food policy impacts the availability of healthy and affordable food, national health guidelines, school lunches, agricultural practices, and the environment, to name a few areas. Most of us are unaware of what issues are being debated and decided upon in food policy, even though the results affect our daily lives. Fortunately, there are some excellent websites that take a critical look at our food system and food policy, and help to bring mainstream attention to important issues we should know about.

Civil EatsCivil Eats – Civil Eats is a daily news source for critical thought about the American food system. We publish stories that shift the conversation around sustainable agriculture in an effort to build economically and socially just communities.

 

 

Food FirstFood First – Food First is a “people’s think tank” dedicated to ending the injustices that cause hunger and helping communities to take back control of their food systems. We advance our mission through three interrelated work areas—research, education, and action—designed to promote informed citizen engagement with the institutions and policies that control our food.

 

Food Policy ActionFood policy action – Food Policy Action was established in 2012 through a collaboration of national food policy leaders in order to hold legislators accountable on votes that have an effect on food and farming. USDA Center for Nutrition Policy & Promotion – The Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) was created within the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1994. Together with the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), CNPP reports to the Office of the Under Secretary for Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services.
