1. Information We Collect

A. Information You Provide

We collect information you provide directly when you:

  • Register or create a profile (as an individual, influencer, business, or nonprofit): name, email, password, profile photo, phone (optional), interests, professional details, company information, business category, and other details you enter.
  • Submit a business or nonprofit listing: organization name, description, category, contact information, website, social media, certifications, eco-attributes, events, job postings, offers, and other fields you fill out.
  • Participate in community features: posts, comments, reviews, direct messages, uploads, survey responses, and other content you submit.
  • Make a payment or purchase: payment details are handled by Stripe; RoG never stores your full credit card number.
  • Contact us or respond to surveys: any additional details you share.

B. Information We Compile for Business Listings

For businesses and nonprofits, we may supplement our directory with information from public sources or business data partners—such as business name, street address, phone number, email, website, and a brief description—to help users find, understand, and contact green businesses. If you are the business owner, you may claim your listing and update it at any time.

C. Information Collected Automatically

When you visit or use our sites, we collect:

  • Device and usage data: IP address, browser/device type, operating system, referring URLs, site activity, and logs.
  • Cookies and analytics data: We use cookies and tools like Google Analytics to remember your preferences, authenticate your session, monitor usage, and personalize your experience. (You can adjust cookie settings in your browser; some features may not work without cookies.)

D. Information from Third Parties

For businesses and nonprofits, we may supplement listings with data from public sources or business data partners (see above).

For individual members, we do not gather any information from outside sources. If you choose to connect your social accounts, we only use those for login or display purposes as directed by you.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve our directory, community, and related services.
  • Create and manage your account/profile.
  • Enable business listings, networking, and communication between members.
  • Process payments, renewals, and support requests.
  • Send transactional notifications (account, membership, orders, service changes).
  • Send community or marketing communications (if you opt in—never spam).
  • Personalize your experience and recommend relevant features or offers.
  • Analyze usage and enhance our services.
  • Fulfill legal obligations and enforce our Terms.

Community & Platform Transparency:
If you participate in forums, groups, or interactive features (such as on our Discourse-powered community), any content you post—including messages, comments, or uploads—may be visible to other members and, in some cases, to the public. You control what you post. Please use caution when sharing personal information in public areas.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share or disclose data:

  • With trusted service providers (for hosting, analytics, email, payment processing, or platform operations such as Discourse).
  • With other members (if you post content, join groups, or list your business/organization).
  • If required by law, legal process, or to protect rights/safety.
  • In aggregated or de-identified form (never in a way that identifies you personally).

Your profile, directory listing, and public posts may be visible to other users and search engines.
You control what information is public via your account and listing settings.

Third-Party Communities and Integrations:
If you use our community features powered by Discourse or other third-party tools, those platforms may process your information according to their own privacy policies and security standards. We only partner with reputable vendors and do not authorize them to use your data for their own marketing purposes.

4. Cookies & Analytics

We use cookies, pixels, and analytics tools to:

  • Enable sign-in and essential features.
  • Remember your preferences.
  • Monitor usage and improve our sites.
  • Measure and deliver promotions (if used).

You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may impact certain features.

5. Your Rights and Choices

Managing Your Information

You can view, update, or delete most of your information at any time through your account or listing settings. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails via the link in any message.

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell or share your personal information for marketing. If you are a California resident, you may:

  • Request to know what personal data we have collected about you (usually just what you’ve provided).
  • Request deletion of your data.

Most of your data can be managed through your account. For additional requests, email hello@republicofgreen.com. We will verify and respond as required by law, typically within 45 days.

European Users (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or UK, you may:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
  • Restrict or object to certain types of processing.

You may also have additional rights under the laws of your country.

You can manage most data via your account or by contacting us at hello@republicofgreen.com. By using our services, you consent to your data being processed in the United States.

6. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures—such as SSL encryption, firewalls, and access controls—to protect your data. Payment information is never stored on our servers and is handled securely by Stripe or other trusted payment processors.

If a data breach ever occurs, we will promptly notify affected users and regulators as required by law.

In the rare event of a breach, information that could potentially be exposed includes details you have provided for your account, business listing, or community participation—such as your name, username, email, hashed password, and any content or posts (including those in private groups).

While we take every reasonable precaution, no website can guarantee absolute security. We encourage you not to share confidential or sensitive information in posts, even within private groups.

Discourse and our other platform vendors employ their own security protocols. Please refer to their privacy documentation for further details regarding their platform.

7. Data Retention

We retain your information as long as necessary to provide services, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.

You may delete your account at any time. Deleted data may persist in backups for a limited time as required for security, but is not actively used.

Posts or messages you have made in community forums may remain available after account deletion, in accordance with community guidelines and technical limitations, but may be anonymized.

8. Children’s Privacy

Our sites and services are not intended for children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us for prompt removal.

9. Third-Party Services and Links

Republic of Green may link to or integrate with third-party services, including:

  • Payment processors (e.g., Stripe)
  • Community tools (e.g., Discourse)
  • Social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook)
  • Event booking tools (e.g., Tock, TripAdvisor)

These services have their own privacy policies, which govern your interactions with them. We encourage you to review the privacy practices of any third-party platform you use through Republic of Green.

10. Future Features

Republic of Green may introduce new services or features (such as lead generation or collaboration matching). If our use of your information changes, we will update this Policy and notify you as appropriate.

11. California “Do Not Track” Notice

“Do Not Track” (DNT) is a browser setting that lets you tell websites you do not want your online activity tracked. When enabled, your browser sends a DNT signal to websites, but most sites—including Republic of Green—do not change their behavior in response, as there is no legal requirement to do so. However, Republic of Green does NOT track your activity for advertising and does NOT sell your data. We use standard analytics tools (like Google Analytics) to understand which pages are most popular, not to track individual browsing for marketing.
